Daar is verlede jaar in die finale stemming meer as ‘n 100 000 keer gesms. Is julle lus om ‘n nuwe rekord op te stel? Nadat die nominasie-proses afgehandel is, gaan Kwêla en Rapport by die streeksfinaliste kuier, sodat ons vir ons kykers en lesers alles van die dorpe kan vertel en dan kan julle ‘n ingeligte besluit maak oor watter dorp vanjaar die kroon moet dra.
2011 se wendorp gaan met ‘n miljoen rand se pryse in bemarkingswaarde van Rapport, én ‘n miljoen rand se pryse in bemarkingswaarde van kykNET wegstap en Leopard’s Leap borg 50 Wyn-Akademie kursusse vir inwoners van die dorp.
In totaal gee ons wynborg dus nog R70 000 ter bevordering van die dorpsmense.
Natuurlik sal ons vanjaar weer die wendorp gaan gelukwens met ‘n GROOT makietie waarop van ons voorste kunstenaars sal optree. Daar sal dan ook twee nuwe ingangsborde onthul word en die wendorp sal ‘n trofeë ontvang.

Characteristics of the old homestead, such as the paint of German origin on the interior walls of the “voorkamer” (lounge), the original architectural form of the house and the picturesque environment have ensured that many a South African film has been shot here. Supper is enjoyed with your host and hostess, Anton and Susan, in the “voorhuis” (dining room) or under the pergola and under the starry night skies. You will be treated on traditional “boerekos,” regional dishes that Anton and Susan themselves prepare.

The guest rooms in the outbuildings, previously the school where the Schoeman children were educated, the cart-shed turned winepress, or even an ox wagon used by earlier generations, have been suitably furnished to give you a unique experience of the outdoors.

Each house is privately situated with its own interesting garden, braai lapas and views which constantly reminds one of what it must have been like in paradise. Meals and/or special dishes are available on order and the swimming pool at the Manor is also available to guests. The various hiking trails on the farm meander up the mountainside between huge aloes and across the many perennial mountain streams. The nature lover will enjoy the rare bird and game species, age old rock formations and diverse vegetation. The clear night skies, silence and peacefulness makes a visit to this extraordinarily beautiful and serene farm more than a worthwhile experience.

All of these unique characteristics are supplemented by the true traditional South african hospitality offered by the hosts, Jan and Maggie Fourie. Truly an unique experience. The establishment has recently been graded by the Tourist Grading Council as a 3 – star establishment – however, it surely offers five star hospitality!

BIRDWATCHING
Oudemuragie Guest Farm invites you to experience a true Karoo birdwatching experience. A variety of different bird species are found on the site and here we represent Southern Africa’s birdlife at its best. Amongst them you’ll find the famous Weaver, building its nest, hanging from the branch of a Thorn Tree.

The house offers visitors a lounge-dining area with tea and coffee making facilities and a bar fridge for your convenience. There is a reading-room/sun-room from which to enjoy views of the garden and soak up the Karoo winter sun. Spacious stoeps are a tranquil vantage point from which to enjoy mountain views, or sunsets punctuated by the windmill, or simply to watch the world go by – slowly, as it generally does in Klaarstroom! There is also a swimming pool.

Breakfast is served in the dining room or on one of the stoeps. Some guests prefer the traditional, spacious kitchen warmed in the winter months by the old Aga stove.

We have a variety of rooms available. A twin room and two rooms with double beds are situated in the main house. Two twin rooms are in the converted waenhuis (wagon house). They have reed ceilings and private stoeps with views across to the pool area.

Meals
If prior notice is given, supper at R95 per person will be provided. If a guest wishes to use the guesthouse as a retreat, then additional meals (lunches, teas) will gladly be offered, by arrangement.

Rates
Rates are R300 pppn, on a bed and breakfast basis. Additional meals and teas are by arrangement. We have a single supplement of R70.

Nestling at the Northern foothills of the majestic Swartberg Mountain range close to the entrance of the spectacular Meiringspoort gorge, Wilgemond is a tranquil haven where you can relax at the pool beneath an endless sky and marvel at the breathtaking vistas, yet also experience the day to day life on a genuine working Karoo farm amidst vineyards, ostrich paddocks, fields of onion seeds and a splendid rose garden. Rustic and off the beaten track, Wilgemond is real and down to earth, offering the warm hospitality so unique to a South African farm.

Wilgemond Farm is owned and run by Nelmarie and Guillaume Swiegers. Besides farming wine, apricots, ostriches and onion seeds, Guillaume is also an expert Witblits maker, while Nelmarie grows roses for the Oudtshoorn market and cooks the magnificent farmhouse dinners.
